Lease extension
The legal process of extending the term of a leasehold property. Under the Leasehold Reform Act 1993, a leaseholder has the right to extend the lease by 90 years (plus the remaining term) at a 'peppercorn' ground rent, on payment of a premium. The premium is calculated by a formula based on the property value, ground rent, and lease length.
